The company was established in 1979 with the development of the ‘Lightscan’.  This was possibly the first motorised lighting system and comprised a curtain of aircraft landing beamlights.  It was launched on the final World tour of the WHO.

Micro-processors and the Apple 11e came along and enabled the control of more intelligent individual lights.  This resulted in the development of the first robotic luminaires and cameras for the musical 'Starlight Express' in 1984.

The Precision Automated Lighting System (PALS) was a further refinement to suit any type of television studio or theatre luminaire.  It was specified for the World's first fully automated TV studio in Hannover which opened in 1988.  The PALS system was subsequently licensed to Strand Lighting.
